Yesterday we covered and reviewed Lesson 12 in Saxon 8/7. I also reviewed the concepts for Lesson 13 and assigned the mixed practice problems for homework.
Today we corrected Lesson 13 and handed it in. I also reviewed the concepts for Lesson 14 and assigned the mixed practice problems for homework which will be due tomorrow.

Monday and Tuesday I proctored ITBS testing for my homeroom and so no literacy as usual. Tomorrow I will only get my literacy class for about an hour and so we will work on our Practice Time Checklist.
The literacy schedule will be back to normal next Monday.

Instead of starting Lesson 11 like I had planned we did an investigation on fraction and percents.
The investigation will be due tomorrow and is worth 100 points. Most students finished it in class… however, I encouraged them to take it home to review it with parents because of the point value.

I assigned a new poem today for students to memorize… “Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost. It will be due the 18th of October.
We also started reading “The Giver” and covered the first two chapters. A quiz was given on the first two chapters and those that didn’t finish or [...]
We reviewed the test we took last Friday in class… some students elected to take a make-up test on it today. Most errors involved simple math calculations. Many students rush through these calculations because they are easy and then make small mistakes which they fail to catch… I will work with them on this shortcoming [...]
For science class today we practiced taking the IOWA standardized test which will be given next Monday and Tuesday
We will start the scientific method unit on Wednesday.
Will get lesson plans loaded on website asap… been having some problems with my server at GoDaddy…
I will get a new poem out tomorrow for students to memorize for this month… still debating on which one however.
We had our final review on the metric system today and the final test for this subject will be tomorrow.
Some students are still struggling with the concept but I need to move on. Our next unit of study will be the scientific method. After that we will move on to changes in the earth’s surface.
Students’ review of concepts are going very well… everyone seems to understand what is going on and have turned in all homework assignments to date.
We will review for first major test tomorrow which will be given Friday.

Students didn’t do as well on their comprehension/vocabulary test today as they did their last one. The major reason I believe this occured is because of their lack of vocabulary skills. I will make a better effort to discuss/teach those vocabulary words included in the test, but not part of the assigned vocabulary, so that [...]
